Return of recreational cricket

Posted by Chris Ricaldone on 6 July 2020

You may have heard the great news that the UK Government has given the green light for recreational cricket in England to return from Saturday 11th July.

Both the Four Counties Cricket League and the Bedfordshire County Cricket League have taken the decision to cancel their 2020 seasons as there is insufficient time to arrange any meaningful form of competition.  This means there will be no Saturday or Sunday competitive league cricket this year.

However, all is not lost!  Preliminary discussions have already taken place with a number of other clubs regarding the possibility of playing Senior friendly matches.  In advance of this, we are planning to hold an inter-club match on Saturday 11th July to get into the swing of things.

Please note – the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will shortly be publishing guidelines for the return of recreational cricket.  We will of course be adhering to the guidelines to mitigate risk and ensure a safe environment.

If you would like to take part in the inter-club match next Saturday then simply meet at The Common at 12:30.  The format will be determined based on numbers and, of course, any specific guidance issued by ECB.  The match will be played on the artificial pitch so spikes will not be permitted.  No tea will be provided so please bring your own refreshments.  The toilets will be available, however, the changing rooms will be out of use.

Obviously, if you are currently quarantining or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 then please do not attend The Common.

Once we have reviewed the ECB guidelines we will make a decision regarding training sessions and the possibility of friendly matches.
