================================

Welcome to the 2021 Junior season at Aspley Guise Cricket Club.

The Club has been in existence for 150 years and, to this day, remains at the heart of the community.

We are friendly and inclusive, welcoming boys and girls of all abilities.  No prior cricketing experience is needed as our goal is to have fun, build confidence and develop a love for the game.

Coaching Sessions (all age groups)

Friday 16th April 2021 until Friday 6th August 2021 (18:00 - 20:00).

Venue: The Common

The first session on Friday 16th April will be used as an opportunity to meet the coaches and complete registration for the 2021 season.  We will run an exercise for the kids while registrations are taking place and some light refreshments will be available.  Please feel free to make your way to The Common for 18:00.

Additional Coaching Session: On Sunday 18th April we will be holding an additional coaching session from 10:00 to 12:00.

***Upon arrival all Junior players must register before starting training.***

If a coaching session is cancelled due to adverse weather, we will endeavour to post this news on the Club website and social media channels by 17:30 at the latest.  If possible we will also send an email notification of the cancellation.  If you are unsure whether a session is going ahead then please feel free to telephone or text us.

Matches

We aim to give all children who regularly attend coaching the chance to play in a match at some stage during the season.  Details of Senior matches for which Junior players (aged 13 and over) may be selected will be provided separately.

Match times this season will be as follows:

U9s and U11s:  Sundays at 10:00

U13s:  Tuesdays at 18:00

U15s:  Thursdays at 18:00

Home matches will be played at The Common.  Please click here to view a list of all the Junior fixtures for 2022.

Matches usually last about 2½ - 3 hours.  Your child's coaches will advise you of the meetings times.  Refreshments are usually provided for players but your child might want to bring a water bottle as well.  Do come and watch the games as it’s always good to have some support and build a nice atmosphere.  You can bring your own refreshments, though many clubs offer soft drinks, tea and coffee etc and some have a licensed bar.

We will supply maps and directions for away matches.  Please note that as a general rule, the coaches are unable to provide lifts for children to and from matches and so it would be helpful if you could make your own transport arrangements.

Membership Subscription Fee and Registration

The Junior membership subscription fee for the 2021 season is £65.  There is no longer a £1 Junior match fee, however, a £3 match fee still applies for Juniors participating in a Senior match.

To register please send an email to agcc.communication@outlook.com.

We will then ask you to complete the AGCC Junior Registration and Consent Form so that we have a record of your contact details, consent for your child to take part in the Club’s activities and to receive medical treatment in the unfortunate event of an accident.

We will require you to complete the form and submit payment of the membership subscription fee as soon as possible, and by no later than your child’s first scheduled match.  If we do not have a completed registration form for your child or if the membership subscription fees remain unpaid, then your child may not be eligible to play in matches.

COVID-19

We will be adhering to the ECB guidelines in order to ensure a safe environment for us all.

Clothing and Equipment

Appropriate sports clothing should be worn for training sessions and matches; including sports shoes, clothing suitable for running, stretching and falling onto grass.  For matches, cricket whites are nice but not essential at this level.  Until your child is certain that he or she wants to continue playing, we suggest wearing a white shirt (eg. a school PE polo shirt), long sports trousers and, if possible, light coloured jumper or sweat shirt for matches.  Aspley Guise Cricket Club kit can be bought from our club shop.  If the weather is likely to be sunny, sun cream and a hat are strongly recommended.

Under 13s and Under 15s matches are played with a traditional hard cricket ball and protective equipment is available.  However we recommend players buy their own ‘box’ protector and suitable briefs to put it in.  The Under 9s and Under 11s will use the softer ‘Incrediball’.  Don’t worry if you child doesn’t have a cricket bat, as the Club has several for use.

Volunteering

We are run entirely by player and parent volunteers and are always looking for assistance from those who would like to help at coaching sessions or by running match days/umpiring.  If you are interested in getting involved then please drop an email to agcc.communication@outlook.com
