Geoff White

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our dear friend and Club Secretary, Geoff White, passed away this morning.
Geoff was a Club official for an incredible 64 years. He became Treasurer in 1954, then combined the posts of Treasurer and Secretary from 1968 until 1974 – at this time he relinquished the post of Treasurer but remained as Club Secretary ever since.
As a boy, Geoff lived on West Hill and first played for the Club as a schoolboy. Geoff would have been the first to admit that he was not the greatest ever cricketer, however, by all accounts he was an extremely talented rugby player. Of course, Geoff was typically modest about his abilities with the oval ball!
Apart from his administrative roles, Geoff was very involved with the maintenance of the ground, and in fact prepared the wicket for many years. Geoff was also the Club historian and an avid collector of Club memorabilia. You may have seen his some of his extensive Club History which records the early years of the Club in great detail, and combines with the history of the village.
In addition to his activities for the Club, Geoff was also very involved in village and church activities in Heath & Reach. He wrote regular articles on local history for the Parish magazine and was a stalwart of the village pantomime.
The thoughts and sympathies of everyone at Aspley Guise Cricket Club are with Mary and the White family.
We will pass on details of the funeral once arrangements have been finalised.
